Address and GPS Information

The official address of the Presbyterian Cemetery is 600 Hamilton Avenue, but many smartphone apps mistakenly direct visitors to Holland Lane, which is not an entrance to the cemetery. If this occurs, use the address 1475–1601 Wilkes Street, Alexandria, VA 22314—the general address for the Wilkes Street Cemetery Complex. This will guide you to the intersection of Wilkes Street and Hamilton Avenue. Once there, simply follow the posted signs to reach the cemetery gate.

Cemetery Map

Downloadable PDF maps showing sections and pathways are available to help you locate loved ones, navigate sections, or plan a visit. We encourage all families to contact the Superintendent if they need assistance locating a grave.

Cemetery Rules & Regulations

To preserve the beauty and sacredness of our grounds, we ask all visitors to observe the following:

  • The pedestrian access gate allows access from sunup to sundown
  • No plastic flowers or non-biodegradable decorations
  • No alcohol on cemetery grounds
  • No loitering or disruptive activity
  • Christmas wreaths and decorations will be removed after January 15 each year
  • Dog walking is a privilege of registered members of the cemetery K9 Corps
  • Firearms or weapons are prohibited, except for military honors
  • The cemetery reserves the right to deny access to anyone who violates these rules.

Special events (tours, concerts, educational programming, etc.) require prior written approval from the cemetery board.

Hours and Access

The cemetery is gated to protect the privacy of our families and the integrity of our historic grounds. The pedestrian gate allows access from sunup to sundown and is secured with a four-digit lock. Families may request a private access code; a temporary code is also available upon request. Vehicle gates are open most Saturdays and select holidays from 11 am to 3 pm. Special access can be arranged by appointment. For security reasons, please do not share gate codes.

There is ample parking inside the cemetery when the vehicle gates are open, with signage guiding visitors to appropriate areas for services and general visits. When the gates are closed, parking is available along Hamilton Lane outside the cemetery.
